Nightwatch Song - Saw-Whet Owl in the Stars Notecard
Tucked among evergreen boughs beside pinecones, the Northern Saw-Whet Owl keeps watch beneath a vast, star-filled sky, the night reflected in its eyes like tiny constellations. One of the smallest owls in North America, barely larger than a robin, it carries a presence far bigger than its size would suggest.
I have always adored saw-whets. They are undeniably charming and almost implausibly cute, but at the same time they are formidable hunters, precise and efficient in the dark. They bring to mind a line from Shakespeare that has long resonated with me: "Though she be but little, she is fierce." It feels like a perfect fit for the saw-whet, and a reminder that strength often comes in small, unexpected forms.
